Copilot works across familiar tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, allowing users to simply ask in natural language and receive real-time assistance in the flow of their work. For example, Copilot can draft a proposal in Word, generate a PowerPoint presentation from an outline, summarize a long email thread in Outlook, or extract insights from data in Excel – all based on a brief prompt from the user. It leverages Microsoft’s Work IQ intelligence layer (and Microsoft Graph) to ground its responses in the user’s own context – emails, files, meetings, and chats – so outputs are personalized and relevant to your business.


At the same time, Copilot inherits your organization’s security, privacy, and compliance policies: it will only surface information a user is authorized to access, and it doesn’t use your private content to train the underlying models, keeping your data fully under control.


There is no complex setup or new interface to learn; once enabled, Copilot appears within the Office apps and a unified Copilot Chat interface. In addition to in-app assistance (like writing help or data analysis suggestions), users can interact with Copilot through a conversational chat that spans across their M365 environment – ask a question and Copilot can pull from SharePoint files, emails, calendar, and more to provide a consolidated answer.
